Day 51 - We made it to Albany - and we stayed dry-ish

The weather pattern in New York shifted today with a low pressure system, pushing through in the next couple of days. Today we saw an opportunity to push our miles early to stay out of the front moving from west to east. We were pretty successful in our 70 mile effort by getting a relatively early start in Fort Plain and by staying on the trail throughout the entire session. Kevin worked hard to bring us some egg sandwiches at about 25 mile mark. And some Jersey Mike’s subs at the 51 mile mark.

We had 51 miles done before 11:30 AM. As we were eating in a trail side park, the skies opened up and we ended up with maybe 30 or 40 minutes of a solid downpour before we worked our way back out of the rain as we approached, Troy, New York. We made it into Albany, which was our end point for the day at about 1:15pm.

The trails today for the most part were in good shape and were all paved. Climbing was minimal and again with overcast skies and tree lined trails We kept relatively cool.

Another night in Schenectady at the same Airbnb, we stayed at last night. When we’re able to stay somewhere it’s really nice because we don’t have to load all of our gear in the truck every morning, which is the typical MO for the trip.

Had a really nice dinner tonight with Kevin’s daughter Shaylyn. I said this before in my blog, family, and friends along the way have made this trip so much more special!

Tomorrow we will head south from Albany, and hopefully make it as far as Rhinebeck. The forecast is 3 1/2 inches of rain over the next 24 hours. We will bundle up and see what we can do!

If all goes well, we have three more days of riding to get into Bridgeport Connecticut. This will put us on the ferry Friday afternoon and Back with our families on Friday night. We are all looking forward to being home. If all goes to plan, we will have a rest day on Saturday we’ll meet up with friends and family to do the last leg across Long Island to Smiths point where we dip our tires in the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday!
