Rode out the front door of our Airbnb this morning with a chill in the air. Temperatures in the mid 50s as the sun rose to a cloudless sky. Pretty flat terrain with views of Lake Erie as we hugged the coast on our way to the Peace Bridge which is the re-entry point to the US from Canada! Today’s ride was 82 miles long.
Very low key day. Good eggs and bacon at Sunny Side Up in Dunnville, ON. Turns out Kevin spent summers up in Dunnville at his grandfather’s cabin many moons ago.
Tonight we went to Lockport after we rode to Kevin’s hometown. We had a cook out at his sister’s house. Another home cooking event with loved ones. This time Kevin’s family and friends and since my daughter Mary lives in the area, she and one of her sister-in-laws joined us! Delicious steak, pork chops and chicken on the grill, tasty salads, fruit and brownies for desert. So good to have these gatherings as we’ve crossed the country!
So, after 3,400 miles and 105,000 feet of ascending mountains and hills, we are back in New York! It’s kind of weird to think this is coming to an end. We haven't done it yet but it’s starting to feel like we’re close.
Lastly, not sure if you’ve been able to visit our website to see our real-time map, or to donate, but so many of you have! We are about to break the $70,000 mark and hope to hit $100,000 before it’s all over!
Were off to Brookport tomorrow along the Erie Canal. This will be my third crossing, having gone east to west in 2020 and west to east in 2023.
