Day 42 - More of Michigan

Today, we reached 3,000 miles on our journey across the USA for the guide dog puppies at the Seeing Eye! We're now just two weeks away from returning to Long Island. It was a day filled with road and bridge closures (definitely some frustrating detours), but we enjoyed decent temperatures, favorable wind direction, good air quality, flat terrain, and our first 100-mile day.
After covering 92 miles yesterday, we followed it up with 100 miles today. We didn't stop for meals, relying on Kevin's excellent support vehicle service for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, various snacks, hydration, and ice!
We've concluded (tongue and cheek) that at least half of the roads in the country have a detour or closed sign, and we often ride through them to find they are passable. However, today we encountered a truly impassable bridge closure, forcing us to navigate 20 miles south to find a way across the river. We succeeded, but it added 10 miles to our eastward route. Today was challenging. Perhaps we didn't consume enough calories, but all three of us were really exhausted by the end of the day.
One last note, in relation to my earlier comments about Wisconsin! I praised their trails as the best on our trip so far. After these last few days, I think Michigan might have taken the lead or is at least tied! Beautiful surfaces and excellent facilities as we travel through the Great Lake State!
We have one more day in Michigan. We'll finish with 70 miles at the ferry, which we'll take to cross into Canada on Tuesday.
