Day 38 - We finished Wisconsin and it was a great place to bike!

Today's ride took us from my sister and brother-in-law's house (rode out the door to the route) to Milwaukee where we rode to the door of our Airbnb. It's kind of a nice way to start and finish instead of finishing and starting in the middle of nowhere and having to rack the bikes on the truck and ride 20, 30 or 60 miles to a place to stay. and then rack the bikes in the morning and return to the middle of nowhere to ride again! This nowhere thing has been most of the trip in all honestly.

So, by the numbers; 81 miles, easy climbing, 96 degrees by the time we finished around 3 PM, good lunch with my sister Kate and wife Caroline at the 45-mile mark, more beautiful tree lined bike trails, and did I mention it was hot?

Anyway, here is a little tidbit to think on; early in the trip we were facing daunting climbs up mountains, with really tough headwinds and cross winds, the effects of elevation and some pretty intense storms. We'd look at what the next day had in store for us and we'd think about it and try to get mentally ready for what the numbers said. In the end, we did the work and finished the day regardless of the worry we may have had the day before. Now as we head into our next state of Michigan, we hear in the news about heat domes, parasites in fresh veggies, forest fires in Canada that will make breathing difficult. Guess what? We'll get through it. Worrying will not make the next day easier. So, sleep, eat, hydrate and ride. We'll sort out the route and the conditions as they come!

Tomorrow, we head to the other side of Lake Michigan, we say goodbye to Wisconsin, my family here in the state and my wife Cari. Off to Muskegon we go to tackle Michigan hopefully in the next four days! Tomorrow, with travel we will not ride the bikes or if we do, it will be an abbreviated afternoon ride. When we do ride out of Muskegon; we will have only 1,200 miles and 20,000 feet of climbing left in our epic journey! That's after about 2,800 miles now complete along with 100,000 feet climbed!
