A day of riding east then a little north and then a little south and then a little east again. We are in the land of right angles. All roads in Eastern South Dakota are “sections” (1x1 miles grids of land). We followed the grid for 80 miles and definitely got a little warm. Climbing was reasonable at about 2,000 feet.
Bit of a monotonous ride if it were not for meeting some very cool people. Brief breakfast sandwich at 20 miles in Iroquois. Ran into a retired group of guys who were really entertaining. Then, later in the day around lunch time we were invited into a small bar that was still closed by James the owner of Paul’s Plsce in Badger (population 107). Lots of memories of the landscapes and the people we’ve met. Today was exemplary on the people front!
Tonight we are staying in Brookings, a college town (SD State). Tomorrow, more right angles as we make our way closer and closer to Minneapolis. In fact tomorrow we will cross into Minnesota before the day ends!
