What goes up must come down! We began Day 10 with a gradual incline that stretched for about 28 miles. After the first 20 miles of climbing, we enjoyed a hearty breakfast at Lochsa Lodge before continuing up to Lolo Pass. This was our first encounter with an elevation over 5,000 feet above sea level! We're now entering the Rockies region. Our 66-mile ride was essentially 33 miles up and 33 miles down, totaling 2,700 feet of ascent. The temperatures were pleasant, with a slight headwind, particularly on our descent from Lolo Pass.
With 10 days completed, we've covered 700 miles and climbed 33,000 feet. This accounts for 17% of the distance and 28% of the climbing for the entire trip! Tonight, we arrived just in time at Adventure Cycling in Missoula (where we're staying) - the organization that creates the cross-country maps we're using. We had a great conversation with them before heading to UHaul to pick up a trailer, as we're adding a fourth rider to the puppy ride team for the next week or so! Jenny Pearlman has joined the team!
Tomorrow, we'll head south from Lolo through western Montana. Today, we reached Montana from Idaho as we descended from Lolo.
