Day 28 - Ft Thompson to Huron, South Dakota

Today we hit 2000 mile mark on our coast to coast journey in support of The Seeing Eye and the guide dog puppies and are now just as close to the West Coast as we are to the East Coast!

We stopped on a flat roadway at the 2,000 mile point of our journey. It was super hot, very humid and full sun but we celebrated by creating a makeshift sign on the pavement with tape and posed for a few pictures!

All in all it was a good day in the saddle covering about 84 miles with about 2,500 feet of rolling climbs mostly in the first half of the ride. We made a lunch stop at the first town we passed which was 44 miles from the start. We met some very nice people and answered a lot of questions posed by the Sunday lunch crowd. As we ate the waitress approached and said the local post master had paid for our meals since we were doing a good thing for charity. Such a sweet gesture!

Now we are in Huron and will pedal directly from our accommodation on to the east in the morning, ending near Brookings, South Dakota. Another 80 mile day with the temperatures in the 90s. Welcome to summer in the Midwest!
